vshaffer@gmail.comThis journal is for business purposes. I do seed bead work on a beading loom, wire-wrap glassware, and make jewelry with sterling silver wire and semi-precious stone beads.

I started in the early 90's with a simple beading loom that a friend gave me for Christmas. I went from there to stringing necklaces, began wire-wrapping glassware on the spur of the moment, and did that as a hobby till 1999, mostly making toasting glasses for friends getting married, and chalices for other friends of alternate religious habits. My husband nagged me (in a good way) into trying to sell my goods, and that's when I started learning the jewelry work, as I realized that I needed a bit of variety in my goods to have a chance of success. I've been a business now for 8 years, and am always looking for new skills to master and new venues at which to sell.
Most recently I've started making clutch bags and pouches, in a mixture of new and vintage silks, satins, velvets, and tapestries, and am currently in the throes of a knitting obsession involving obnoxiously bright shades of fun fur, which should be premiering at events soon.
Most of the pieces I do are one-of-a-kind, which makes keeping an up-to-date website close to impossible, hence this journal, which is much easier to maintain. Once something sells, it's gone, especially with the glassware. I don't have the time it would take to constantly update a website, as this is part-time for me, and I have a full-time M-F job and a family as well.
I sell at various events in and around Seattle, and a few farther afield, and I'll post upcoming events here. If you have an event at which you think I should be, please email me at vshaffer (at) gmail (d0t) com with details. If you're trying to remember where you might have seen me, events at which I've sold at over the past eight years are:
Norwescon
The Fremont & Ballard Sunday Markets
FHCRC craft fair
CascadiaCon (2005 NASFiC)
The Alki Summer Market (no longer in existence, sadly)
Seattle's Junior League Holiday Craft Fair
Boeing Parapsychology Expo
Portland's Vampire Ball
Convergence 13
Washington Renaissance Fantasy Faire
I Heart Rummage
All of the pictures you'll see here, unless otherwise noted, were taken by me with my Nikon 990 digital camera, with the Macro function, and are copyrighted. Colors are sometimes touched up in PhotoShop, but only to true them with the actual piece of work. If you'd like to repost one of these pictures elsewhere, please credit Designs by Victoria and provide a link to this site, and do not hotlink.

People are always asking me for recommendations on where to purchase materials. Here's some of my favorites:
Halstead beads - they are wholesale only, and their minimum order is $100, but for silver findings they're hard to beat
Fire Mountain Gem - a little pricier, but they have some beautiful things
If you're local to the Seattle area, there's Alexandar's Bead Bazaar, and if you're up for a road trip, the unimaginable Shipwreck Beads in Olympia.
Other places that are good to visit:
Custom leather and plastic masks and rubber and leather accessories

The perfect specialty confection for that special occasion, or Evil Genius cookies just for the heck of it.

Where you can make the acquaintance of the delightful Polyglot and Spleen, as well as find other readings to stimulate the imagination
Amazing pet portraits, and I'm not just saying that because it's my mother's site.
For inspiration:

As this journal is strictly business-oriented, all posts are public, but no anonymous posting is allowed. I can take criticism, but some people don't know how to behave on the internet and precautions like these need to be taken. Sad, but true.
So, browse, and enjoy. If you are interested in purchasing any of these pieces, please email me at the address in my profile. Happy Viewing!
